John F. Auer

John founded the American Strategic Insurance group (ASI) in August 1997 to provide a voluntary market for residential property insurance. Under John’s leadership, ASI has grown to become one of the 15 largest residential property insurers in the United States.
Prior to founding ASI, John served as Vice President of Product Management and Corporate Planning at Bankers Insurance Group and as a Division Controller at Crum & Forster Personal Insurance. He began his insurance career in 1976 as an internal auditor at State Farm Mutual Insurance Company.
Throughout his career, John has played a key role in working with regulators and legislators in finding solutions to property insurance issues. He currently serves as a Board member and Chair-Elect of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund Advisory Council, and was previously appointed to Florida’s Property and Casualty Reform Committee’s technical advisory council. He has also served on the Boards of the Florida Windstorm Underwriting Association and the Insurance Institute for Property Loss Reduction (now the Institute for Business & Home Safety).
John earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Ohio State University; an MBA from the University of Texas; and the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.
